India Sone ki chidiya
“Education is the passport for the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”
Since India’s Independence India has been seen as educated as well as uneducated. This brings us to the question if India actually needs educationally qualified leaders or not. Whether education should be important on this day or not. In India, there is no educational qualification required to become a minister but you need to be educated to become a peon. Often, we get swayed by how “literate” a person is. Literacy is about acquiring skills and learning whereas education is about using these skills, knowledge, values, habits, and beliefs that the individual has acquired over the years for the betterment of self and others. Gandhi ji said "Literacy in itself is no education. Literacy is not the end of education or even the beginning. By education, I mean an all-round drawing out of the best in the child and man-body, mind and spirit." According to him, education was important in all spheres of life. Therefore, education is important for effective democratic rule.
Educated leaders also possess the technical powers to ensure the nation grows in all spheres. Few politicians have displayed flawless skills in their areas. One example is the development of the railway sectors, the techniques used were discussed extensively. The economy has also experienced a high doom with the help of such politicians. It is very important that the leader is educated in the field of public administrations and certain basic administrations. He/she must be able to address his/her people and solve their issues. The leader should be aware of the people’s needs and be able to solve people’s issues in a very effective manner. An educated leader can help better in aiding the development process of the country and in changing its status to that of a developed nation. An educated leader would be able to help achieve the “Education for all goal”. Multiple times politicians get misguided by their Bureaucrats but an educated leader would not as they would think multiple times before taking any actions. They are better policymakers and can become better administrators, statesmen, foreign ministers, etc.
Therefore, for a better future, we need educationally qualified leaders. At present, in India only 40% of politicians are educated, and that even up till school. Uttar Pradesh, whose literacy rate hovers around 70%, lesser than the national average of 74%, has nine percent of its 44-member Cabinet who hold doctorates, while only 15 percent of the ministers have listed schooling alone as their education.
Education would not harm an individual or the society, it would only help the country achieve its goals and make it a safe place to live in for everyone. Hence, it is important to set a minimum education criterion in order to avoid the drain of wealth and senseless legislation which are important aspects of development. An educated leader would take us on the path of a developing country that is not only rich in culture but also the land of unity in diversity. Let’s stand together and make education a pillar of unity, economy, success, and a prosperous country. Let’s make India again Sone ki chidiya!
